Corona Spider

Coronavirus (COVID-19) is currently dominating news coverage in the media. One of the most popular questions is when the number of infections will reach their peak. Virologists have been creating models, authorities making predictions, and even public figures, who are themselves not specialists, have been posing as experts. Eurospider switched its “Compliance Machine” from adverse media to COVID-19 and searched for opinions in the media about when the pandemic will reach its peak.

The medium-term development of the coronavirus infection curve is obviously hard to predict at the moment; there are still remarkably few precise estimates in the media that was examined. The following two recently published statements provide an interesting perspective. According to the media, the St. Gallon cantonal physician Danuta Reinholz is of the opinion that the peak can be expected at the end of April. Patrick Mathys, head of the crisis management and international cooperation department at FOPH/FDHA, was cited in the media as saying that the number of coronavirus cases in Switzerland will flatten out in the middle to the end of May. At today’s media conference held by the Federal Office for Health (FOPH), Daniel Koch said that the curve is expected to flatten in five days.
